Meredith Marie Smith and Carlton Bradley Adams were united in holy matrimony March 4 at 6:30 p.m.

The Rev. M. Eugene Carpenter officiated at the ceremony at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Drs. Dwight and Deborah Jolliff Smith of Goldsboro are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of John K. Jolliff and the late Gwendolyn Berry Jolliff of Raleigh and Lyda Shivar Smith and the late Lyman Beecher Smith of Seven Springs.

Mr. and Mrs. Carlton F. Adams Jr. of Clayton are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Foy of Maysville, Rossie L. Adams of Smithfield and the late Carlton F. Adams of Princeton.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white silk taffeta strapless gown with a sheer shoulder wrap of illusion with Swarovski crystal trim. The bodice was embroidered with Swarovski crystals, rhinestones and bugle beads. The dropped waist ballgown skirt was tufted and accented with rhinestone pickups.

For her headpiece, she chose a tiara of fire-polished Czech and Swarovski crystals with a double-tiered veil with an embroidered edge. She carried a bouquet of white and pink roses, lisianthus and dendrobium orchids.

Megan Berry Clarke of Raleigh, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Erin Munroe Clarke of Raleigh, cousin of the bride, Gillian Wilson Smith of Missouri City, Texas, Rachel Lea West of Wingate, Heather Dawn Angell of Winston-Salem and Jennifer Sattenfield Bell and Ellen Amanda Snyder of Durham.

Carlton F. Adams Jr. was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Adam Daniel Fish of Willow Springs, cousin of the groom, Jake Warren Kimbrell of Cary, John Edward Kempter of Chapel Hill, William Benjamin Turner of Greensboro and Jonathan Morrison Smith of Goldsboro, brother of the bride.

Karla Michelle Adams of Cary, sister of the groom, was the honorary bridesmaid.

Kay Cooke directed the wedding. Angelina Marcil Church and Maura Helen Patrick distributed programs.

Bruce Clarke and David Sorrell were scripture readers.

A program of wedding music was provided by Bill Hayes, organist; Don Eagle, trumpeter; and Ashley Gales, vocalist.

After a wedding trip to St. Lucia, the couple will reside in Chapel Hill.

The bride is a 1999 graduate of Wayne Country Day School and a 2003 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. She attends the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. She was presented at the 2000 Debutante Ball.

The groom graduated from Garner Senior High School in 1999 and North Carolina State University in 2003 with a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences and genetics. He attends the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception and dance at Walnut Creek Country Club.

On March 4, Dannie Brewer, Dianne Finan, Linda Gwatney, Kathy Lies, Diana Pike and Cora Sedlacek, members of Read Between the Wines Book Club, held a bridesmaids’ brunch at Goldsboro Country Club.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner March 3 at Walnut Creek Country Club.

On Feb. 25, Megan and Erin Clarke held a bachelorette party and lingerie shower in Chapel Hill.

Jacque Seegars, Anne Boone Urquhart and Kay Jones held a Know-Down Pony Club reunion luncheon Feb. 4 at the Seegars home.

On Jan. 28, Liz Ferguson and Jed Lambert held a stock-the-bar party in Chapel Hill.

The Lovie Farthing Circle of Mount Moriah Baptist Church held a floating shower Jan. 22 in Clayton.

Friends of the groom held a bachelor party Jan. 14 in Atlantic City, N.J.

On Dec. 23, Mary Ann Parker held a luncheon and ornament shower at her home in Goldsboro.

Jennifer Sattenfield Bell and Amanda Snyder held a miscellaneous shower Oct. 15 at the Bell home in Durham.

On Sept. 10, the bride’s family held an engagement party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Clarke in Raleigh.
