MOUNT OLIVE — Marjorie Ann Garringer Mitchell of Mount Olive became the bride of Douglas Purnell Connor Feb. 12 at noon.

Dr. Dennis Draper officiated at the double-ring ceremony at First United Methodist Church.

The bride is the daughter of Emma Lorrene Harris Garringer and the late Thurman Edward Garringer of Winchester, Ind. She is the granddaughter of the late Ethel Byrum Harris and the late Oscar Harris of Winchester and the late Bessie Miller Garringer and the late Benjamin Alexander Garringer of Portland, Ind.

The groom is the son of the late Marion Emily Purnell Connor and the late Ethelbert Norris “Bill” Connor Jr. of Mount Olive. He is the grandson of the late Emily Richards Purnell, the late Oliver Purnell, the late Maud Hammell Connor and the late Ethelbert Norris Connor Sr.

Given in marriage and escorted by her sons, John Joseph Mitchell of Roxboro and Douglas Edward Mitchell of Coats, the bride wore a street-length silk bisque strapless sheath dress with a jacket with beading and flower appliqués.

She wore a corsage of red roses.

Mary Alice Thornburg of Winchester, twin sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Suzanne Elaine Connor Gwynne of Angier and Judith Emily “Julie” Connor Boyd of Charlotte, daughters of the groom.

Douglas Robert Connor of Faison was his son’s best man. Ushers were John Mitchell and Douglas Mitchell.

Emma-Dare Katlyn Mitchell of Coats, granddaughter of the bride, was flower girl.

Norma Carole McDonald of Mount Olive directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Carrie McNeill Connor of Faison, daughter-in-law of the groom.

A program of wedding music was provided by Gerald Herring of Goldsboro, organist, and Carolyn Ball Bolin of Mount Olive, vocalist.

After a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach and Charleston, S.C., and Savannah, Ga., the couple is residing in Mount Olive.

The bride is a graduate of White River High School of Winchester and Ball State University with a master of arts degree in elementary education and library science. She is a member of the Wayne-Duplin Business and Professional Women’s Club and Mount Olive Exchange Club. She was employed by Wayne County Public Schools. She is employed with the Wayne County Public Library as a library assistant.

The groom graduated from Guilford College’s aviation cadet program as a Dana Scholar and Wake Forest University’s law school as a Babcock Scholar with a law degree. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and it’s professionalism committee and international director of the Rotary Club. He is self-employed as an attorney.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall. Kimberly Parham Mitchell of Roxboro and Jennifer Leigh Tysinger Mitchell of Coats, daughters-in-law of the bride, served the wedding cake. Rebecca Connor Gwynne of Angier and Kelly Gavin Turner of Clinton, granddaughters of the groom, poured punch. Caroline Emily Boyd of Charlotte, Miranda Carol Connor of Faison and Victoria Parham of Roxboro, granddaughters of the couple, distributed birdseed.

On Feb. 2, Donna Kornegay, Nellie Jinnette and Janet Bryan of Goldsboro and Kaye Harrell of Mount Olive held a lunch at Southern Exposure Restaurant of Faison.

Pamela Wood, Avice Jackson and Betty DeLuca held a brunch Jan. 28 at Southern Belle Restaurant.

On Jan. 27, the fellowship Sunday school class of First United Methodist Church held a dinner at Goldsboro Country Club.

Priscilla Clifton, Eleanor Brubeck, Col. William Bizzell and Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Clifton Jr. held a luncheon Jan. 22 at Goldsboro Country Club.
