CHARLESTON, S.C. — Jennifer Lee Bass of Cary and Clifton Wilson “Will” Oldham were married Nov. 19 at 3:30 p.m.

The Rev. Robert Wachs of Siler City, family friend, officiated at the ceremony at First Baptist Church in the historic district.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bass of Newton Grove. She is the granddaughter of Annette Sutton of Faison, the late Donald K. Sutton and Mr. and Mrs. Milford Bass of Clinton.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walton C. Oldham Jr. of Cary. He is the grandson of Margaret Barfield of Snow Hill, the late Clifton Barfield and the late Mr. and Mrs. Walton C. Oldham Sr. of Chapel Hill.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white georgette off-the-shoulder sheath gown with a beaded lace bodice and a chapel-length train.

For her headpiece, she chose a crystal and pearl filigree headband attached to a fingertip veil. She carried a white cascading bouquet of phalaenopsis orchids, miniature calla lilies, lisianthus, freesia, heather and variegated ivy.

April Walls of Raleigh, friend of the bride, was maid of honor.

Walton C. Oldham Jr. was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Christopher Bass of Newton Grove, brother of the bride, and Michael Braxton of Tarboro, cousin of the groom.

Emily Sutton and Anna Grace Sutton of Newton Grove, cousins of the bride, were flower girls.

Fay Atwood of Charleston and Denise Britt of Faison directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Usher of Newton Grove, friends of the couple. Sidney Sutton of Clinton, cousin of the bride, distributed programs.

Mary Kaydon Thompson of Faison, cousin of the bride, and Katherine Barfield and Ray Barfield of Snow Hill, cousins of the groom, were rose memorial presenters. Kimberly Braxton of Tarboro, cousin of the groom, was the reader.

A program of wedding music was provided by Stephen Distad of Charleston, organist; Libby Distad and Cameron Wilson of Charleston, vocalists; and Greg Schoonover of Charleston, trumpeter.

After a wedding trip to St. Lucia, the couple is residing in Cary.

The bride is a 1998 graduate of Hobbton High School, a 2002 graduate of North Carolina State University and a 2004 graduate of North Carolina Central University with an advanced master’s degree in communication disorders. She is employed as a speech-language pathologist for Wake County Public Schools.

The groom graduated from Cary High School in 1999 and North Carolina State University in 2003. He is employed as a sales representative for Herff Jones.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at McCrady’s Restaurant.

Annette Sutton, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Sutton, Mr. and Mrs. Robbie Thompson and Marie Harrell held a dinner party Oct. 8 at Billie’s Restaurant.

On Oct. 2, friends and family of the bride held a pre-wedding reception at Hopewell United Methodist Church.

Margaret Barfield of Snow Hill held a dinner party Oct. 1 at Kinston Country Club.

On Sept. 25, Margaret Barfield and Louise McLawhorn held a bridal shower at the Barfield home in Snow Hill.

Covenant group of Cary Presbyterian Church held a dinner party Sept. 21 at Pirates Cove Clubhouse of Cary.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner cruise and dance aboard the Spirit of Charleston. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.
