Deborah Leigh Shaw of Raleigh and James Thomas Capps Jr. of Raleigh said their wedding vows Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.

Dr. Glenn Phillips Jr. and the Rev. Bill Perry, uncle of the groom, officiated at the double-ring ceremony at First Baptist Church.

Parents of the bride are Howard A. “Buddy” Sr. and Virginia B. Shaw of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of the late Andrew W. and Lucile W. Bekshaw of Goldsboro and the late Howard L. and Helen L. Shaw of Gainesville, Fla.

The groom is the son of James T. Sr. and Karen P. Capps of Live Oak, Fla. He is the grandson of the late Harvey and Kathryn Perry of Live Oak and the late Millard and Gladys Capps of Raleigh.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white satin formal gown with a sweetheart neckline. The bodice was adorned with beaded lace. The back had covered bridal buttons detailing to the hem. The A-line skirt flowed into a cathedral train highlighted with cutout lace appliqués and matching re-embroidered lace along the hemline.

For her headpiece, she chose a crystal and rhinestone tiara with an elbow-length single-tiered veil of silk illusion accented with pearls finished with scalloped edging. She carried white roses, miniature calla lilies and stephanotis.

Christine W. Balts of Bristow, Va., cousin of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Maria M. Garner of Morehead City, Joy L. Ginn of Goldsboro, Robin B. Ruffin of Fuquay-Varina and Janet L. Whitfield of Raleigh.

James T. Capps Sr. was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Todd A. Batchelor of Holly Springs, W. Russell Capps of Raleigh, brother of the groom, Roger D. Magarey of Cary and Howard A. Shaw Jr. of Goldsboro, brother of the bride.

Elsie R. Hooks directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Dottie B. Lanier and Ashley N. Shaw, niece of the bride. Haley Ginn, niece of the bride, and Matthew H. Shaw, nephew of the bride, distributed programs.

Special helpers were Kim Calhoun, Jacie Cortese and Beth Woodard, cousins of the bride.

A program of wedding music was provided by Kenyon Clark, pianist, and Beth Chandler, vocalist.

After a wedding trip to Orlando, Fla., the couple will reside in Raleigh.

The bride is a graduate of Goldsboro High School and Meredith College. She is employed with Summit Hospitality Group of Raleigh.

The groom graduated from Broughton High School of Raleigh and North Carolina State University. He is employed with Cokesbury Bookstores of Raleigh.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception in the Elsie R. Hooks fellowship hall. Wayne and Viola Edwards greeted guests. Suzanne Batchelor, Nancy Fulghum, Carolyn Layden and Julie Magarey poured punch. Laura Myers and Gayla Whaley, cousins of the groom, were servers. J.D. and Sara Sasser said good-byes.

The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner Oct. 22 at Wayne County Shrine Club.

On Oct. 21, Christine Balts, Beth Woodard and Marie Woodard held a bridal luncheon at the Royal Tea Room of Selma.

Coworkers of the bride held a shower Oct. 14 in Raleigh.

Coworkers of the groom held a shower Oct. 11.

On Oct. 7, friends of the groom held a bachelor party in Raleigh.

Vickie Hawkins, Kathryn Hunter, Cathy Lee and Julia Magarey held a miscellaneous shower Oct. 2 at Forest Hills Baptist Church of Raleigh.

On Sept. 25, ladies of First Baptist Church held a miscellaneous shower at the church.

Esther Markham and Janet Stubbs held a luncheon Sept. 24 at Lane Tree Golf Club.

On Sept. 17, Suzanne Batchelor, Dottie Lanier and Janet Whitfield held a lingerie shower.

Marie Garner, Joy Ginn and Robin Ruffin held a miscellaneous shower at the Ruffin home in Fuquay-Varina.
