Hooks - Mills
Jerri Leigh Mills and Michael Lee Hooks Jr. were united in marriage Aug. 6 at 6 p.m.
The Rev. Marty Gurganus officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Victory Free Will Baptist Church.
The bride is the daughter of Jerry and Jennifer Rye Mills of Grantham. She is the granddaughter of the late Wilbur and Wilma Brown Rye of Goldsboro and the late Marvin and Mary Glover Mills of Grantham and the great-granddaughter of Catherine Kleinert Mills of Grantham.
Mike and Cathie Hooks of Goldsboro are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Donell and Mary Garris Sr. of Goldsboro and Nona Mayo Hooks and the late C. Wayne Hooks of Fremont.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white strapless silk satin ballroom gown accented with a Basque waistline. The bodice featured beadwork embellished with crystals, seed pearls and silver accents. The pleated skirt was decorated with matching beaded motifs with a cathedral-length train.
For her headpiece, she chose a tiara with rhinestones and pearl accents. The fingertip-length veil featured cascading silver flower motifs with a beaded edge. She carried a bouquet of white lilies, white roses, lavender roses and stephanotis blossoms accented with bead pearls.
Jennifer Mills Lancaster of Goldsboro, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Lizabeth Terry Perkins of Saulston, Carlie Heilmann of Goldsboro and Ashly Howell Turlington of Hope Mills, friends of the couple, and Ann Cree Mills of Grantham, sister-in-law of the bride.
Mike Hooks was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Jon Hooks of Wilmington, brother of the groom; Brad Mills of Grantham, brother of the bride; and Donell Garriss II of LaGrange and Robert Garris of Goldsboro, cousins of the groom. Ushers were Josh Roche´ of Greenville and David Rye of Goldsboro, cousins of the bride, and Kenny Turlington of Hope Mills, friend of the couple.
Jamie Harrell Richards of Goldsboro and Jenny Windham of Wilmington, friends of the couple, were honorary bridesmaids.
Kaylie Rye Mills, niece of the bride, was the miniature bride. Josef Tyler Mills, nephew of the bride, was the miniature groom.
Sharon Thompson of Fremont, friend of the couple, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register and distributing programs were Kimber Roche’ of Greenville and Derek Roche´ of New York, cousins of the bride.
Don and Karen Garris of LaGrange, uncle and aunt of the groom, greeted guests.
A program of wedding music was provided by Elaine Garris Edwards, pianist, and the Rev. Marty Gurganus and Jeff Garris, vocalists.
After a wedding trip to Charleston, S.C., the couple will reside in Rosewood.
The bride is a 1999 honor graduate of Southern Wayne High School, a 2002 honor graduate of Wayne Community College with an associate of arts degree and a 2004 summa cum laude graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She is employed as a teacher at Northwest Elementary School.
The groom graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School in 1996. He attended Wayne Community College. He is employed as a sales associate with Uptown Motors Inc.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a dinner and dance reception at Goldsboro County Club. Jimmy and Wilma Sheppard of Goldsboro, uncle and aunt of the bride, greeted guests. Kaylie Rye Mills and Josef Tyler Mills distributed bubbles.
On Aug. 5, the groom’s parents held an after-rehearsal dinner at Goldsboro Country Club. The groom chose this time to present gifts to his attendants.
Frances Howell, Linda Perdue, Kay Meadows, Kelly Kokiko, Kay Pittman and Mary Ann Howell held a bridesmaids’ luncheon July 30 at Walnut Creek Country Club. The bride chose this time to present gifts to her attendants.
On July 23, the bride’s mother and Jennifer Mills Lancaster, sister of the bride, held a lingerie shower at Billie’s Backstreet Restaurant.

A bridal shower was held June 26 at St. Joseph Methodist Church.
