NEVIS, West Indies — Seanna Herring Whitfield of LaGrange and Paul Gene Copeland of LaGrange exchanged wedding vows June 25 at 10 a.m.

The Hon. Yasmine Clarke officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Nisbet Plantation.

Emma Lucille Joyner Herring and the late Ernest Loften Herring of Clinton are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of the late John William and Agathia Massey Joyner of Grantham and the late Freddie Marion and Katie Aman Herring of Newton Grove.

Parents of the groom are Celia Rae Nixon Copeland and the late Lester T. Copeland of Hertford. He is the grandson of the late Jesse and Dixie Nixon and the late Alphonso and Julia Copeland of Edenton.

The bride wore a flowing white silk gown adorned with opaque ice beads with a short pleated train. She also wore a cropped white lace opaque ice-adorned long-sleeved jacket.

For her headpiece, she chose orchids and plumbago. She carried orchids, plumbago, hibiscus, ferns and other flowers.

Beverly Plachta was matron of honor. Leonora Digger was the bridesmaid.

Patterson Flemming was best man.

Leonora Digger directed the wedding.

After a wedding trip to the West Indies, the couple is residing in LaGrange.

The bride is a graduate of Mount Olive College with an associate’s degree in science and Campbell University with a bachelor of science degree. She is employed as director of laboratory services with Goldsboro Milling Co.

The groom graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor of science degree. He is employed as head serviceman of the turkey division with Goldsboro Milling Co.

Following the ceremony, a beach reception was held at Nisbet Plantation. A traditional Caribbean chocolate rum cake was served.

The groom’s daughters, family and friends will hold a house blessing and celebration.

Kathy Carr, Chris Weggman, Bernie Lambe and Curtis and Miriam Drake will hold a low country boil.
