Gwendolyn Vanessa Morrisey became the bride of Apostle Norbert Emmanuel Simmons on Dec. 18 at 1 p.m.

Chief Celebrant Pastor Dwight Morrisey officiated the ceremony at the Deeper Life Celebrant Ministries, Inc. in Goldsboro.

The bride is the daughter of Jannie Fryar Morrisey and late Macon Lee Morrisey of Warsaw.

The groom is the son of Lena Jones Simmons and the late Elder Levancie Simmons of Mt. Olive.

Given in marriage by her mother, Jannie Fryar, and escorted by Colonel Romeo H. Morrisey, the bride wore a strapless satin gown accented with lace and pearls. The long sleeve, sheer lace coat adorned with pearls and sequins featured a long bell sleeve with scalloped lace edging matching the scalloped neckline of the gown. The dress and the coat flowed into a cathedral length train.

For her headpiece, she wore a tiara attached to a three-tiered veil, with one tier being of cathedral length. She carried a bouquet of roses, lilies, and baby’s breath.

Demeteria Staten, best friend of the bride was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Queenie Morrisey, sister of the bride, Nellie Lyons, best friend of the bride, Kathleen Simmons, sister-in-law of the groom, Laretta McCalop, Teresa McLean, Vivian Jones, Gwendolyn Devaughn, Audrey Williams, Patricia Murrary, and Delphine Whitfield, friends of the bride and groom.

Jackie Ashford and Guy Simmons was the best man. Ushers were Macon Monk, nephew of the bride, Michael Best, Larry Coley, Taheed Walls, Leonard Grantham, Derrick Wootson, Paul Farrior, Thomas Meachum, Michael Lofton and Robert Scott. Groomsmen were Pernell Simmons, brother of the bride, Ellis Wilson, Raymond Mills, Ronald Whitfield, Larry Artis, Mack Murray, Clyde Wilkins, Howard Williams and Victor Young, friends of the bride and groom.

Hostesses were Dinah Monk, sister of the bride; Vashti Johnson, niece of the bride; Shanti Johnson Franklin, niece of the bride; Josephine Best, Patricia Hardy, Pam Johnson, Mattie Mason, Sheryl Jackson and Charisee Johnson, friends of the bride and groom.

Vikki Marcell, Sheila Goodman and Delphine Whitfield directed the wedding, hostesses, a registered attendant and ushers distributed programs.

Music was provided by: pianist, Minister Abner J. Clark; organist, Tonya Simmons; vocalists, Tina Cooper, Devon Artis and Roland Suggs. Other music provided by the church’s DLCM Praise Team and DLCM Band.

After a wedding trip to Nassau, Bahamas, the couple will be residing in Goldsboro, N.C.

The bride is a graduate of James Kenan High School in Warsaw and North Carolina A & T University. She is employed as a math teacher for East Duplin High School.

The groom graduated from Carver High School. He is the founder, pastor & apostle for the Deeper Life Church Ministries.

A rehearsal dinner was held on Dec. 17 at the church.

On Dec. 3, a bachelor party was held at the Country Inns and Suites.

On Dec. 4, the special events committee of Deeper Life Church held a lingerie shower for the bride at Herman Park Center.
