Bishop John Lawson, uncle of the groom, officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Barnes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Parents of the bride are James and Annie Whitley of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of the late James and Arie Whitley and the late Robert and Annie Barnes of Goldsboro.
Bernice B. King and Mr. and Mrs. Roland Lathan of Goldsboro are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Author Blount, the late Leslie Cox and Annie M. Cox of Goldsboro.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a matte satin strapless sheath grown with a bolero-length jacket accented with reembroidered Alencon lace appliqués with pearl Austrian crystal embellishments on the jacket, bodice and hemline. The backfeatured a full-length cathedral detachable train with stain roses at the waistline in circle with Alencon lace cutout with crystal and pearls.
She chose an elbow-length headpiece of white tulle and satin edged with pearls scattered accented with a crystal row edge crown. She carried purple and white roses accented with baby’s breath and pearl beads.
Sherica M. Mitchell of Goldsboro, friend of the bride, was matron of honor. Cindy Norman of Atlanta, Ga., friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Kim B. Edwards of Snow Hill, friend of the birde, was the bridesmaid.
Conrad Reid of Goldsboro was his cousin’s best man. Groomsmen were John Stackleford of LaGrange, godfather of the groom; Michael Cox of Goldsboro, uncle of the groom; and Nathaniel Walter of Parkstown, cousin of the groom. Ushers were DeMarquis Whitley, son of the bride; Christopher Williams of Goldsboro and DeMarcus Bogan of Mar Mac, nephews of the groom; and Megeal Kornegay of Parkstown, cousin of the groom.
De’Ja Broadhurst of Goldsboro, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Geoffrey Whitley of Goldsboro, son of the bride, was ring-bearer.
Sandra Barnes of Dudley, cousin of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Leah Whitley of Goldsboro, daughter of the bride. Daria Whitley, niece of the bride and Ashley Lewis of Goldsboro, cousin of the bride, distributed programs.
Evangelist Patricia McKeithan of Washington D.C., aunt of the bride, and Pastor Wilbert B. Johnson of Raleigh, friend of the bride, were Scripture readers.
A program of wedding music was provided by Min. Jewel Lee, pianist, and Min. Jannis Scales and Sean Waters, vocalists.
The couple is residing in Clayton.
The bride is a 1983 graduate of Capital Christian Academy of Maryland. She attended the American College for the Applied Art of Georgia majoring in fashions design/fashions merchandise. She is employed as a processing assistance IV/customer service with the Department of Corrections Correction Enterprises of Raleigh.
The groom graduated from Goldsboro High School. He is employed with Prego Flooring of Gardner.
Following the ceremony, the couple held a reception at the Wayne County Museum. Hostesses were Sheila Gardner and Mrs. Kathy Kornegay of Parkstown, and Diana Jacobs of Dudley, aunts of the groom; Belinda Smith, aunt of the bride; Daria Whitley, niece of the bride; and Ashley Lewis of Goldsboro, cousin of the bride. Presiding at the gift table was Leah Whitley, daughter of bride. Kimberly N. Moses of Indian Head Md., sister of the bride, cut the wedding cake.
On Sept. 29, co-workers of the bride held a surprise shower.
