DUDLEY — Layla Ann Hood and Charles Lee Steele of Grantham said their marriage vows Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.

Johnny Sasser officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Emmaus Baptist Church.

Jeffrey Floyd and Jill Darden Hood of Grantham are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of Floyd and Molly Hood of Grantham, Julia Darden of Dudley and the late Bobby Lee Darden Sr.

Parents of the groom are Mary Holst of Fredrick, Md., and Alston Steele of New Bern. He is the grandson of Evelyn Hood and Betty Steele of New Bern, the late Milton Hood and the late Leroy Steele.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white strapless matte satin A-line gown. The bodice had sequin and pearl embroidery that trailed down to a split front. The insert was accented with matching sequin and pearl embroidery. Embroidered accented the top of the gown and covered buttons completed the semi-cathedral train.

For her headpiece, she chose a two-tiered veil of French illusion attached to a Juliet cap covered in lace, sequins and pearls. She carried a bouquet of miniature sunflowers, daisies, purple statice and mixed flowers with streamers of white ribbon.

Marymichael Weaver, friend of the bride, was maid of honor.

D.J. Hood, brother of the bride, was best man. Tommy Oliver, friend of the couple, was the usher.

Emily Davis, cousin of the bride, was flower girl.

Kim Kennedy, aunt of the bride, directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Claire Kennedy, cousin of the bride. Matthew Sasser, cousin of the bride, distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by Mollianne Kennedy, pianist, and Kim Kennedy, vocalist.

After a wedding trip to Williamsburg, Va., the couple is residing in Grantham.

The bride is a 2002 graduate of Southern Wayne High School. She attends Wayne Community College. She is employed as a child care provider with Christian Care Academy 3.

The groom graduated from Wayne Community College in 2000. He is employed as an auto parts salesman with Carquest Auto Parts.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the church fellowship hall. Lucas Davis, cousin of the bride, distributed bubbles. Miranda Davis, cousin of the bride, poured punch. Melissa Ovalle, friend of the couple, cut the wedding cake.

The bride’s family held a rehearsal dinner Sept. 30 at Emmaus Church.

On Sept. 25, Kim Kennedy and Molly Hood held a bridal luncheon at the Kennedy home.

Don Jenkins Jr. held a bachelor party Sept. 24.

On Sept. 17, Marymichael Weaver held a bachelorette party.

Molly Hood, Julia Darden, April Sasser and Nora Sasser held a shower Aug. 21 at Emmaus Baptist Church.
