India Marie Vaughn and Anthony Jerome Rhodes exchanged wedding vows on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m.

Bishop Alton A. Smith officiated at the double-ring, candlelight ceremony at St. Mark Church of Christ

The bride is the daughter of the late Eugene Vaughn, the late Cleopatra Vaughn Craig, and Chester William Craig Sr. of Goldsboro. Her paternal grandparents are the late James Raynor and the late Retha Kornegay and Richard Kornegay of Goldsboro. Her maternal grandparents are the late Clifton H. Sherard Sr. and Ethel P. Sherard of Goldsboro.

Parents of the groom are Willie Rhodes Sr. of Mount Olive and the late Hattie Middleton Rhodes. He is the grandson of Mrs. Louvenia Rhodes of Dudley.

Given in marriage in honor of her deceased biological parents and escorted by her father, Chester Craig Sr., and her brother, Michael Vaughn, the bride wore a white and silver strapless A-line gown designed with a matte satin bodice and English netting overlay. Beads accented the top of the bodice and the waist and were sprinkled throughout the chapel train.

Her two-tiered scalloped veil flowed from a tiara adorned with diamonds. She carried a bouquet of red roses.

Shantel Hamilton Vaughn, sister-in-law, of the bride, was the matron of honor. Monica Talley of Raleigh, friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Elesha Speight of Clayton, cousin of the bride, Dana Kerns Smith of Virginia Beach, Va., classmate of the bride, and LaShaundon Smith of Goldsboro, niece of the groom.

Timothy Johnson of Raleigh served as his friend’s best man. Groomsmen were Eric Pullen of Raleigh and Henry Parks and Dustiin Harrelson of Goldsboro, friends of the groom, Victor Shaw of Clayton, uncle of the bride, Michael Vaughn of Goldsboro, brother of the bride, and Thomas Rhodes Sr. of Goldsboro, brother of the groom.

Junior bridesmaids were Deetryce Vaughn of Memphis, Tenn., and Shauntoya Vaughn of Goldsboro, nieces of the bride.

The flower girl was Amber-Simone Ingram of Clayton. The ring bearer was Braylon Hardin of Memphis Tenn., nephew of the bride.

Melissa Pullen of Raleigh, friend of the bride, directed the wedding. The register was attended by Valaree Williams of Goldsboro, cousin of the bride, Irma Casey of Kinston, friend of the bride, and Bianca Cogdell of Raleigh, classmate of the bride.

Following a wedding trip to the mountains of North Carolina and a cruise to Jamaica, the couple resides in Clayton.

The bride is a 1989 graduate of Goldsboro High School and a 1993 graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor of science degree in rehabilitation studies. She is employed as a facility survey consultant with the North Carolina Division of Facility Services and Mental Health Licensure in Raleigh.

The groom is a 1980 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and a 1984 graduate of Mount Olive College with a bachelor of art’s degree in business administration. He is employed as senior quality process inspector with Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical in Clayton.

Following the wedding ceremony, the couple held a reception at Lane Tree Golf Club. Yutrina Mathis of Augusta, Ga., friend of the bride, Shelia Rhodes of Washington, D.C. and Patricia Sutton, sisters of the groom coordinated the reception. Milton Sherard of Fort Washington, Md., served as master of ceremonies. James Hall of Greensboro greeted guests. Keyosha Bynum of Baltimore, Md., daughter of the groom, sang to the couple. Hostesses were Shannon Hightower and Sharonda Melvin of Greensboro, Camelia Johnson of Charlotte, cousins of the bride, Joyce Rhodes of Goldsboro, cousin of the groom, Latonia Toms of Raleigh, Clifteene Shields, aunt of the bride, Allison Hunter-Evans, Alice Turnage and Charmaine Bell-Grantham of Goldsboro, friends of the bride. Mrs. Maurice Mial of Raleigh served the three-tiered wedding cake. A program of music was provided by Deonco Brewer of Kinston and Mr. and Mrs. Thurman (Larkeysha) Sheppard of Snow Hill and Rodney Davis of Kinston, vocalists and friends of the couple.

On Sept. 10 the bride’s brother and sister-in-law held a rehearsal dinner at St. Mark Church of Christ.

On June 4, co-workers of the bride held a lingerie shower at the 42nd Street Oyster Bar in Raleigh.
