Mary Vernette Kornegay and Henry Lee Jones of Arlington, Va., pledged their marriage vows Saturday, June 19 at 2 p.m.

The Rev. Robert Cheeks officiated at the double-ring ceremony at First African Baptist Church.

The bride is the daughter of the late David Paul and Inez Blackman Kornegay of Mount Olive.

The groom is the son of the late Henry M. Jones and Ethel R. Jones of Lancaster, Va.

Presented in marriage by her family and escorted by her brothers, Bobby Kornegay and Elder Donald Ray Kornegay, the bride wore a white satin sheath gown of beaded Alencon lace. The fitted bodice was embellished with pearls, sequins and Alencon lace with a tip of the shoulder V-neckline. Long sleeves adorned the gown with bows and butterfly appliqués. Alencon and rose scalloped lace appliqués completed the semi-wrap cathedral-length detachable train.

For her headpiece, she chose a side band of pearls and sequins with a two-layer pencil edge veiling. She carried a cascading bouquet of purple, ivory and white roses with lavender stock accented with purple statice, ivy, miniature lavender garden roses, alstromeria and lavender and purple Monte casino.

Lena Chavis of Raleigh, friend of the bride, was matron of honor. Jackie Hargrove of Raleigh, friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Katina Core of Dudley, Paulita “Angel” Musgrave of Mount Olive and Natasha Kornegay of Cary, nieces of the bride, and Stacey Griffin of Temple Hills, Md., LaTanya Malone of Ayden and Connie McCoy of Cary, friends of the bride.

Timothy Jones of Lancaster was his brother’s best man. Groomsmen were Christopher Brooks Sr. of Falls Church, Va., and Timothy L. Kornegay Sr. of Goldsboro, nephews of the bride; Michael Rather of Laurel, Md., friend of the groom; James Rice and Ryan Rice of Richmond, Va., cousins of the groom; and James Strickland of Raleigh, friend of the bride.

Ensura Flowers of Goldsboro and Sherylle Musgrave of Dudley, great-nieces of the bride, and Leah Jones of Arlington, Va., daughter of the groom, were junior bridesmaids. Christopher Brooks Jr. of Falls Church and Julian Musgrave of Atlanta, Ga., great-nephews of the bride, and Henry D. Jones of Arlington, son of the groom, were junior groomsmen. Ushers were Calvin Core of Dudley, nephew of the bride, and Anthony Carter of Loutan, Va., cousin of the groom.

Brianna Wright of Dudley, great-niece of the bride, was flower girl. Cameron Core of Dudley, great-nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.

Comatha B. Johnson of Goldsboro, cousin of the bride, directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register was Lola James of Griffton, friend of the bride. Audrey King of Mount Olive, friend of the bride, distributed programs.

Timothy L. Kornegay Jr. of Goldsboro, great-nephew of the bride, was bell ringer.

A program of wedding music was provided by Kevin Alston, friend of the bride, organist and vocalist, and Tracy Alston of Goldsboro, friend of the bride, vocalist.

After a wedding cruise to the eastern Caribbean, the couple will reside in Arlington.

The bride is a graduate of Southern Wayne High School, Mount Olive College and East Carolina University in 1980 with a degree in home economics and interior design. She is employed as assistant vice president with BB&T of Falls Church.

The groom graduated from Lancaster High School of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University in 1984 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and management. He is self-employed as an investment portfolio manager.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Dillard Alumni Center’s H.V. Brown Hall. Comatha B. Johnson was coordinator. Rochelle Herring of Goldsboro, friend of the bride, was mistress of ceremonies. Iris Durham of Goldsboro, friend of the bride, greeted guests. Cynthia Gerald and Dollie Gerald of Goldsboro, friends of the bride, were head hostesses. Audrey King of Mount Olive, friend of the bride, distributed programs. LaKesha Brooks of Upper Marlboro, Md., great-niece of the bride, presided at the couple’s table. Shaja Brothers of Bowie, Md., friend of the bride, presided at the gift table. A wedding cake adorned with fresh purple, ivory and lavender roses and purple larkspur was served by Donnie Isler and Barbara McAllister of Goldsboro, friends of the bride. Sherry Rathers of Laurel, great-niece of the bride, distributed souvenirs. Jennifer Hardem of Charlotte, friend of the bride, said good-byes.

Out-of-town guests were from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, Cary, Ayden, Griffton, Greenville and Winston-Salem.

The bride’s brothers held an after-rehearsal dinner June 18 at Holiday Inn Express. The couple chose this time to present gifts to their attendants.

On June 12, Timothy Jones held a bachelor party in Lancaster.

Comatha Johnson and Angel Musgrave held a bridal luncheon June 14 at the Johnson home.

On June 6, Min. Lillie Sanders, Connie Cheeks and Stacey Griffin held a miscellaneous bridal shower at the Sanders home in Fort Washington, Md.

The bridesmaids held a pamper yourself party and lingerie shower May 15 at Stanley Chapel Church fellowship hall.
