Charles B. Aycock pulled out a pair of tight matches among the top three seeds and handed county arch rival Eastern Wayne an 8-1 loss in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play Thursday afternoon.
Second-seeded Abbie Shackleford defeated the Warriors' Amelia Dunmire 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (6).
Third-seeded Laney Reeves fended off EW's Ava Bowen 6-4, 6-4.
"We played good today," Golden Falcons head coach Gene Stancil said. "Our biggest hurdle we had was at numbers two and three singles. Those two girls are strong [players]."
The Golden Falcons' Karlyn Ray, Grace Mooring, Eliana Corado and Abi Wallace each picked up a straight-set win in singles.
Ray-Reeves and Shackleford-Mooring each emerged victorious in doubles.
Eastern Wayne's Theresa Santillana and Makaila Colebrook combined for a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
"I was proud of the fact the girls have gotten better every time they have played somebody," Stancil said.
Aycock (4-3 overall, 2-2 ECC) entertains Greene Central next Wednesday, while Eastern Wayne (1-5, 0-4) is the guest of Rosewood the same afternoon.
