Big plays and discipline carried Charles B. Aycock to a commanding 40-20 win over on Thursday evening.

"It's a huge win for our program," Aycock head coach Steve Brooks said. "We are also happy to have that horrible taste out of our mouths from last week."

Both teams struggled to find any offensive rhythm in the first quarter.

The field opened up for the county rivals in the second period.

Eastern Wayne struck first after an Aycock fumble. The Warriors turned the miscue into a 57-yard touchdown run from Junious Tyson.

Aycock immediately responded when Clay Matthews threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Jaylan Robinson. Tae Jackson's two-point conversion put the Golden Falcons up 8-7.

"We gave it to them, simple as that," Eastern Wayne head coach Leander Oates said. "We had our chances. They [Aycock] played smart, taking advantage of our mistakes. We should've been able to capitalize on a lot stuff we prepared for."

The Warriors took back the lead on Tyson's 3-yard touchdown run.

Three minutes later, Aycock answered with Jackson's 1-yard touchdown run.

Aycock led 14-13 at halftime.

The Golden Falcons dominated the Warriors in the second half.

"I don't what happened to fire our group up," Brooks said. "But we decided to get off the football and running came alive. I really thought that's what changed everything."

The Golden Falcons scored the only touchdown of the third quarter -- Seth Shephard's 2-yard run that increased the lead to 21-13.

Eastern Wayne failed to answer.

Tyson fumbled the ball, which gave Aycock possession at its own 48 early in the fourth.

"I told our guys we can't give Aycock a chance to lead," Oates said. "That was a big fumble that really hurt us. We had a lot of excitement going in, we could have tied the game."

Matthews drove his team down the field and the Golden Falcons scored on a 27-yard touchdown run from Jackson.

Aycock put the game out of reach with back-to-back touchdowns passes -- first Matthews threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Robinson and then he connected with Jaylan Robinson again for 16-yard touchdown pass to give the Golden Falcons a 40-13 lead.

Eastern Wayne scored again late in the fourth quarter when Desmond Vaughn threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Marcus Rose to make the score 40-20.

"We have to continue to climb the mountain," Brooks said. "The only people that believe in us are the people in the stands and in the huddle so we have to prove the doubters wrong."
