After playing three games in two days over the weekend, Wayne County Post 11 showed no signs of being tired while beating Wilson County Post 13, 9-1, on Monday evening.

"We sometimes struggle with the heat, but we're always good to go," Wayne County assistant coach Colton Chrisman said.

Post 13 pitched well keeping Wayne County from scoring easy runs.

"We did not have as many pure hits tonight," said coach Adam Pate. "We faced a good arm, he had good stuff, but we did a good job of battling and making pitches."

In the first Jack Casbarro made the score 1-0 after he hit a single and took home on a wild pitch.

"I swung the bat pretty well tonight," Casbarro said. "My teammates helped out a lot, getting me and the other runs in."

Case Kermode made the score 3-0 after hitting a home run. Wayne County's lead increased to 4-0 after Blake Gipson hit a RBI single.

"It's great to have Case back," said Pate.

Wilson cut Wayne County's lead to 4-1 in the fifth.

Wayne County crushed any hope of a comeback, when it scored two runs off of ground outs making the score 6-1.

The score was 9-1 after Casbarro hit a two-RBI double, and Gipson hit a RBI double.

"I'm just trying to do whatever I can to help out the team," Casbarro said.

Starting pitcher Chance Howard (3-0) was in a groove all night. He threw 10 strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Coming out of the bullpen, Kolby Harris pitched a scoreless sixth. Johnathan Peacock threw two strikeouts in a scoreless seventh.

"Chance looked great on the mound," said Pate. "Kolby Harris was great. You think about the starter and the closer, but the middle relief guy is huge getting us out of those two innings unscathed."

Wayne County has now won 11 straight games.

"We're exceeding expectations," Chrisman said. "We are still a young team, and it's still a young season. We're looking to get better every game."

Wayne County (13-1 overall) travels to Clayton today.
