GREENVILLE -- Early deficits and middle-inning offensive surges have become the norm for Wayne County Post 11.

It's a trend head coach Adam Pate might not particularly like, but it's proven quite beneficial.

So far.

Jacksonville Post 265 built a four-run advantage through 2 ½ innings, only to see Wayne County's bats come alive. A third-inning uprising eventually propelled Post 11 to a 15-4, mercy-rule victory on the final day of the Area I vs. Area II Challenge at Overton Field on the Pitt Community College campus.

It all started with a plunked batter ... twice.

One batter later, Jack Casbarro scored on Christian Yarbrough's RBI base knock. Gipson trotted home on Chance Howard's two-RBI double. Carson Smitherman continued the hit parade with an RBI double.

Then Will Uzzell took one for the team.

Not long after, he and Smitherman each crossed the plate on a passed ball. Casbarro and Gipson each connected on RBI single, which pushed Wayne County out in front 8-4.

By this time, Aryc Chrisman had found his groove on the hill.

In his three-plus inning stint, the right-hander yielded three hits and sat down a pair of Post 265 hitters on strikeouts.

Wayne County stretched its lead to 11-4 in the fifth inning on RBI singles from Lance Wise, Luke Frederick and Casbarro. In the sixth, Uzzell smacked a two-run home run with Smitherman aboard and Casbarro belted a game-ending, walk-off RBI double in the sixth.

Post 11 finished 3-0 in the Challenge.

Casbarro ended the night with a season-high four hits and season-high four RBI. Gipson, Howard and Smitherman contributed two hits apiece. Yarbrough, Uzzell, Tyler Daniels, Wise and Frederick each supplied one hit.

Andrew Fricks and Colby Miller each tallied a run.

Wayne County (12-1 overall) puts its 10-game win streak on the line at home today against Area I East Division nemesis Wilson Post 13. Game time is 7 p.m.
