FARMVILLE -- Blake Gipson swatted a grand slam during a fifth-inning uprising and Josh Hartsfield earned his first-ever Senior Legion win on the mound during Wayne County's 13-1, mercy-rule thrashing of Farmville Post 151 on Monday evening.

Clinging to a precarious 2-1 lead through four innings, Wayne County sent 15 batters to the plate in the fifth.

Christian Yarbrough started the game-changing surge with a lead-off double. Jack Casbarro walked and Post 151 hurler Dakota Delisi plunked Gipson to load the bases.

Ginn delivered a two-RBI single -- the second of seven hits collected by Post 11 in the frame. WC also capitalized on four walks and two passed balls.

Gipson "touched 'em all" in his fourth plate appearance of the game. The bases-clearing slam scored Lance Wise (single), Yarbrough (walk) and Casbarro (walk). The soon-to-be Charles B. Aycock grad ended the night 2-for-3 with five RBI and two runs scored.

Ginn (two RBI), Daniels and Wise (two RBI) provided two hits apiece.

"Blake's grand slam was the dagger tonight and it was a huge swing," Post 11 head coach Adam Pate said.

Carson Smitherman, Tanner Capps and Yarbrough each supplied one hit. The trio combined to score five runs.

Hartsfield relieved starter Justin Edwards, who allowed an unearned run on three hits and filed four strikeouts, in two innings of work. Hartsfield backed up his bullpen mate with two innings of three-strikeout relief and became the sixth different WC pitcher to earn a mound win this season.

Smitherman fanned two Farmville batters in the fifth.

"Justin, Josh and Carson were great on the mound tonight," Pate said.

Farmville, which is 0-7 all-time against Post 11, grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

WC answered behind Gipson's game-tying, two-RBI double in the third and Smitherman, who scored on a fourth-inning passed ball to make it 2-1.

"We started out a little slow offensively, but we kept at it and kept competing," Pate said. "I was most proud of how we responded after going down 1-0 and not even having good at-bats yet."

Wayne County (7-1 overall, 2-0 A1East) puts its five-game win streak on the line at home Wednesday against Cary Post 67.
