Amane Godo, Preston Barnes and Jack Talton combined for no-hitter as Wayne Country Day pummeled Pungo Christian Academy, 11-0, in quarterfinal-round action of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A baseball playoffs Saturday afternoon.

"Not the best game, but we did enough to get the job done," WCDS head coach Michael Taylor said.

The Chargers' pitching staff filed five strikeouts.

Ryan Hopes mashed a home run and concluded the day 3-for-4 with three RBI. Case Kermode provided three hits and two RBI.

Avery Browning, Caleb Brewer (three RBI) and Cole Brewer each posted two hits. Godo (two RBI) added one hit.

The Chargers (17-4 overall) entertain Statesville Christian in semifinal-round play Tuesday. First pitch is 5 p.m.

Baseball

AHOSKIE -- Wayne Christian pounded out 14 hits and benefited from nine walks during its 16-3, mercy-rule romp over Ridgecroft in quarterfinal-round play of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs Saturday afternoon.

The sixth-seeded Eagles (8-6 overall) oppose either Grace Christian-Sanford or second-seeded Kerr-Vance in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Sophomore Addison Johnson and junior Jaxon Bauer provided three hits and two RBI apiece. Jaxon Anderson (two RBI) and Austin Kornegay (three RBI) each had a two-hit outing.

Will White, Tyler Kornegay, Dawton King (RBI) and Davis Byrd (RBI) each had a base knock.

Bauer and White combined for a one-hitter on the mound. Bauer filed nine strikeouts and three runs (two earned) on one hit in four innings of work. White tossed two innings of no-hit relief.
