AYDEN -- Ayden-Grifton High used bookend scoring bursts to turn back Goldsboro, 10-0, on Wednesday in the season-opener for both outfits.
The Chargers (1-0) scored three runs in their half of the first, one apiece in the third and fourth frames and invoked the mercy-rule with a 5-run fifth stanza.
Keeley Carpenter, Annie Foery and Taylor Lane recorded base hits for Goldsboro (0-1), which resumes play on March 6 versus Hobbton.
