Wrestling --Rosewood, C.B. Aycock draw regional assignments

Rosewood High School, which owns a 48-3 mark this winter on the mat, will begin its quest for another dual team state championship today when it faces the winner of Louisburg (8-10)-South Davidson (16-11) in the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A wrestling championships.

The Eagles, who fell in the state final last year to Robbinsville, 36-31, are slated to begin their pursuit at noon.

Third-round action will continue for all teams on Thursday, with regional and state final competition scheduled for Friday and Saturday --  and no one should be surprised if coach Bill Edmundson's troupe advanced to that stage.

Rosewood has simply been brilliant this winter, navigating any and all challengers en route to its 22nd league title.

Golden Falcons hosting

PIKEVILLE --  Charles B. Aycock, which compiled a 15-12 mark on the mat this winter, was selected on Monday as one of eight host sites for today's opening round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3A wrestling championship.

CBA will square off against Union Pines (24-15) at 6 p.m., while No. 1 seed West Carteret (27-4) is slated to grapple with Clayton High (14-10).

The winning teams will face off for a spot in Thursday's third round at 7:30 p.m.
