It's that time of year again.

Wayne County's annual Hot Stove League gala, which honors the area's most accomplished baseball players and coaches, will be held on Jan. 29 at Lane Tree Golf Club.

Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for children 18 and under. The evening will begin with a social at 6:15 p.m., and will be followed with dinner and banquet at 7 p.m.

Two of this year's honorees include Charles Davis, recently retired from nearly three decades in the dugout at Charles B. Aycock High School, and the Rosewood varsity baseball outfit, which compiled a 23-6 record in 2017 and advanced to the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A East Regional title series.

Capping off what is sure to be a night of great fun will be guest speaker Joe West, a Greenville, N.C. native who crouched behind home plate for 40 years' worth of ball games on the Major League level.

"He's one of the three umpires that has more than 5,000 games under their belt," said Hot Stove director Roger May. "There's two others that have done more games than Joe West."

And with stories to share, no doubt.
