HOLLYWOOD CROSSROADS -- Eastern Wayne opened its season with an 8-1 loss to Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference foe D.H. Conley on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors' tandem of Maddie Agner-Amelia Dunmire pulled out an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
"This was a tough first match for our team, but a gauge needed for our improvement as the season progresses," EW head coach Craig Hassell said. "We are with four new players in the top six after graduation last year, but these players are improving and gained valuable match experience today. (I) was very pleased with our doubles performances as we haven't had much doubles practices due to weather.
"Each match will measure our growth as we take on New Bern Thursday in another conference match."
First serve is 4 p.m.
