CLINTON -- Emily Newsome cranked out a team-high 13 kills as Eastern Wayne pulled out 22-25, 25-15, 11-25, 25-18, 15-9 win over Clinton on Wednesday evening.
A senior, Newsome delivered six aces, picked up five digs and dished out 10 assists.
"Emily was hot on her game tonight," EW head coach Anna Hajjar said. "She had the longest serving streak ... they couldn't block her."
Anna Kazar and Rayven Smith supplied three kills apiece. Kazar and Bethany Williams recorded 10 and 15 digs, defensively.
Naomi Williams passed out 11 assists.
Hajjar, in her second season, said that she opted not to substitute freely so the Warriors could become self-sufficient on the court. The Dark Horses, of the East Central 2-A Conference, presented a challenge with their serving and aggressive attacking at the net.
"Clinton tested our defense ... our passes weren't perfect, which made our setters work too hard," Hajjar said. "Clinton made us earn that victory. And that is all I'm looking for in the game (and) to earn the win."
Eastern Wayne (1-1 overall) is the guest of Hunt on Friday.
