LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team is a recipient of the 2016-17 America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
Mount Olive was the sole Conference Carolinas men's squad and one of just four NCAA Division II programs named to the collegiate men's division that honored 19 NCAA programs.
"I am always proud of the hard work that our players put into this program. It makes me even happier when I know they're putting in work to become better people and better students," said UMO head coach David Heller.
"Recognition for this achievement is really appreciated and I know the guys are proud of the body of work they put together in the classroom and on the court this year. This is been a goal for this team for the last five seasons and it's great to see them accomplish it.
"Everyone has to pull their weight in order for us to be recognized. This was an extremely motivated group of young men who have taken advantage of every opportunity at the university. I'm honored to be their coach."
The AVCA Team Academic Award, now in its 25th year, recognizes collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
