Women's lacrosse

* TIGERVILLE, S.C. -- University of Mount Olive sophomore Hailey Dobbins earned defensive player-of-the-year accolades and Jackie Kaderabek received the freshman player-of-the-year award during the Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse banquet.

Dobbins and Kaderabek received nods to the all-conference first team along with freshman Kiara Burke, sophomore Samantha Thomson and senior Gina Fader. Second-team picks were freshman Kelly Young, junior Michaela Ciciarelli and senior Saffron Snethen.

Snethen received all-CC second-team recognition in 2016.

Dobbins holds the single-season school records for ground balls (57) and caused turnovers (61). Kaderabek has dished out 32 assists and scored 36 goals. Her 32 assists are the currently the third most in a single season, according to the UMO history book.

The Trojans advanced today's Conference Carolinas tournament championship game with a 12-3 romp over North Greenville (SC) University. Snethen filed a hat trick (three goals), while Burke and Maddie Wnuk each found the back of the net twice.

Thomson (10-4) yielded just two goals on 11 shots in 50 minutes of play between the pipes.

Men's lacrosse

TIGERVILLE, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey dropped in three fourth-quarter goals and eliminated nationally-ranked University of Mount Olive, 7-6, in semifinal-round action of the Conference Carolinas tournament Saturday afternoon.

The Trojan stickmen, who entered the game sitting 15th in the latest USILA Division II poll, ended the year 11-5 overall.

Jacob Ball paced the UMO offense with two goals.

Goalie Will Urban filed 19 saves.

Ball, Cole Groebner and Urban earned all-CC first-team honors. Brett Kingston, Thatcher Clark and Skyler King were named to the second team.

Kingston led the Trojans in goals (41), points (51), shots on goal (64) and shots-on-goal percentage (.780). Ball concluded the season with 30 goals and a team-leading 17 assists.

Softball

BURLINGTON -- Lees-McRae built a six-run lead and cruised past University of Mount Olive, 9-3, in elimination-round play during the Conference Carolinas tournament contested at Springwood Park.

UMO ended the year 25-29 overall.

Juniors Kayla Allen and Kristin Power cranked out two hits apiece for UMO. Freshman Karen Foley (3-10) took the loss after a three-plus inning stint inside the circle.

The Trojans opened the tournament with a nine-inning, 3-2 loss to third-seeded North Greenville (SC) University. The Crusaders scored the game-deciding run on a bases-loaded walk.

Power batted 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Emily Chaisson (12-11) took the loss in relief.
