Softball

C.B. Aycock 17,

New Bern 0 (5 inn.)

* PIKEVILLE -- Allison Shingleton and Taylor Waddell combined for a two-hitter inside the circle, and Charles B. Aycock thrashed New Bern 17-0 in an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference game Friday evening.

Shingleton posted one strikeout in three innings of work. Waddell retired five Bears on strikeouts. Offensively, Shingleton batted 2-for-3, while Waddell ended the night 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Connor Vinson (two RBI), Cara Lenzi (RBI) and Hannah Vinson (RBI) cranked out two hits apiece.

Taylor Puetz doubled, tripled and knocked in four runs.

The Golden Falcons (17-3 overall, 7-3 ECC) continue play Tuesday at J.H. Rose.

Rosewood 20,

James Kenan 7

* Braylee Butts pounded out three hits and drove in two runs as Rosewood dismantled James Kenan, 20-7, in a Carolina 1-A Conference game contested Friday evening.

Toree Marak rapped out three hits and collected a team-high three RBI. Macy Tyndall also contributed three hits.

RJ Meyers drew three walks.

Tyndall and Kaitlyn Kincaid each threw two innings inside the circle. The duo combined for 12 first-pitch strikes.

Boys' tennis

Wayne Country Day 5-5, Greenfield 1-1

* Wayne Country Day swept a doubleheader against rival Greenfield on Friday afternoon.

In the opening match, the Chargers received singles points from Alec Fritzinger, Charlie Dees and Gray Langston. Fritzinger-Langston and Dees-Will Rose each emerged victorious in doubles.

Fritzinger, Dees and Langston each prevailed in straight-set fashion in the second match. Fritzinger-Langston and Dees-Michael Geer each picked up a doubles point.

The Chargers entertain Lawrence on Tuesday. First serve is 4 p.m. at Wayne Community College.

Girls' soccer

Rosewood 4, North Duplin 2

* CALYPSO -- Sydney Reiss notched two goals as Rosewood handed Carolina 1-A Conference foe North Duplin a 4-2 loss at H.E. Grubbs Field on Saturday morning.

Hannah Rhodes and Payton Lane knocked in one goal apiece.

Summer Jones and Ada Rivera each doled out two assists.

Goalies Hannah Daniels and Faith Ramos combined for 11 saves between the pipes.

The Eagles dropped a 5-3 double-overtime loss to league-leading James Kenan on Friday evening.

Reiss registered one goal and one assist. Jones and Rebecca Fitzmaurice each supplied one goal.

Madison Schillinger posted an assist.

Ramos had 14 saves.

Rosewood (9-8-0 overall) is 8-4-0 with one week remaining in regular-season play.

Goldsboro 5, South Lenoir 0

* Juanita Cortes-Torres punched in two goals during Goldsboro's 5-0 shutout over South Lenoir on the Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference scene Friday evening.

Angelina Nacca, Taironnicia Hardy-Davis and Sierra Stephens each provided one goal.

Rylie Hales dished out two assists, while Hannah Williamson had one.

The Cougars are the guests of county rival Eastern Wayne on Monday. Kickoff is 6 p.m. in New Hope.

Baseball

D.H. Conley 9, Eastern Wayne 1

* HOLLYWOOD CROSSROADS -- Landon Ginn turned in a two-hit outing as Eastern Wayne fell to D.H. Conley, 9-1, in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference action Friday evening.

Ryan Sullivan batted 1-for-3. Tanner Wells went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Sullivan, Ginn and Keyon Gaines combined to throw six innings against the Vikings.

JV

* Softball: Wayne Christian 13, New Life Christian 0 (5 inn.) -- Bri Verme threw a complete-game one-hitter and filed 11 strikeouts inside the circle. Verme and Abigail Kornegay each collected an extra-base hit. The Eagles face Village Christian on Monday.

* Baseball: Rosewood 15, James Kenan 8 -- Rosewood (11-0-1 overall) clinched the Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season crown. Tanner Capps paced the Eagles' offense with two hits and four RBI. Tanner McKeel (two RBI), Connor Wise (RBI), Carson Hatem and Jonah Clark supplied one hit apiece. McKeel, Patrick Jones and Wyatt Searles combined for seven strikeouts. JK had seven hits as a team.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Norwayne 12, Eastern Wayne 4 -- The Cobras emerged as the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I champions, and shared the overall county title with Rosewood since the two schools split their regular-season series. Austin Booth (five RBI) smacked a grand slam and Drew Spencer swatted a two-run home run to pace Norwayne's 15-hit attack. SJ Harris, DJ Madrigal, Brett Forbis (RBI), Mason Bailey, Carter Gipson, Hunter Robinson, Spencer (two RBI), Chase Hare, Hunter Theriac and Crow (two RBI) provided one hit apiece. The Cobras (10-1 overall) used seven pitchers in the game.
