MOUNT OLIVE -- The No. 1-ranked University of Mount Olive used an 11-run outburst in the sixth inning to solidify an 18-4 victory and two-game series sweep of Chowan University on Wednesday night.

Before the momentous inning, Chowan took the lead in the first inning via a RBI groundout. UMO's Zach Mozingo tied the game with a RBI single in the third inning, but the Hawks used a fourth-inning sacrifice fly to retake a 2-1 lead.

The Trojans snatched the game's final lead in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run shot by Drew Ellis.

UMO proceeded to break the game open in the sixth.

Tony Salvaggio opened the offense with a RBI double, which brought home Ben Conner. A RBI double by Mozingo, a RBI walk and a grand slam by Justin Carroll pushed the Trojans' lead to 10-2. UMO tacked on four more runs before the inning was complete.

UMO totaled 15 hits Wednesday night. Trae Sweeting led the team with three hits. Mozingo (two RBI), Carroll (four RBI), Ricky Surum (RBI) and Salvaggio (RBI) each posted two hits.

Trojans' starter Braxton Shetley picked up the win after allowing four

hits and one walk in five innings. It was Shetley's fourth victory this season.

Mount Olive (39-7, 22-2 CC) concludes its regular season with a three-game series against Limestone. The matchup begins with a double-header on Friday and the finale on Saturday.

The 12th-ranked University of Mount Olive eased past Pfeiffer University in an 18-9 rout contested at Ray McDonald Sr. Track & Field/Lacrosse Complex on Wednesday.

The score was knotted at 2-2 after the first quarter, but the Trojans used a 4-0 spurt in the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead into halftime. Brady Elbin, Nick Correra, Jacob Ball and Tyler Keele provided the scoring in the second period.

Pfeiffer cut UMO's lead to 8-5 in the third quarter. UMO responded by going on a 5-2 run, which extended its lead to 13-6. The Trojans shut the door on Pfeiffer by holding a 5-3 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.

Ball led Mount Olive with five goals, while Brett Kingston recorded a hat trick. Trojans' goalkeeper Will Urban made 12 saves and picked up his 10th victory of the season.

UMO (10-3, 5-2 CC) will travel to Queens University on April 22nd for its regular season finale.
