After a controversial call, WCDS played to a tough, 2-2 tied versus Neuse Christian Monday afternoon.
The Chargers took the lead midway through the first half after a penalty kick from Ally Willman. Neuse Christian tied it in the second half, but the Chargers responded when Hayden Nielsen slotted a ball to Langley Barnes.
The contested call came when a Chargers' defender shielded the ball to allow the goalkeeper to pick it up. The referee blew the whistle, and Neuse Christian scored on a free kick with eight minutes left.
"The girls played great from start to finish against a really tough opponent and didn't deserve to have what happened to them at the end," said WCDS head coach Steve Ellis. "The call by the referee isn't even a real call. We had the game won and it was taken from the girls not by the other team but by the referee. Overall our girls played great, best team performance of the season."
