BASEBALL: WCDS throttles Pope John Paul

Case Kermode and John Strickland pounded out three hits apiece as Wayne Country Day throttled Pope John Paul, 25-0, in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference match Tuesday.
The duo combined for four RBI.
Mitch Turnage (two RBI) and Jack Talton (two RBI) each had two hits.
Avery Browning (RBI), Amane Godo (two RBI), Ryan Hopes (RBI), Zach Barfield (three RBI), Jon Bryan (RBI) and Caleb Brewer (RBI) supplied one hit apiece.
Tanner Willman drove in a run.
Ryan Smith, Brown and Barfield each threw one inning in the mercy rule-shortened affair. The trio combined to retire seven JPJ hitters on strikeouts.
Wayne Country Day (7-3 overall, 4-0 CPIC) is the guest of nemesis Greenfield today. First pitch is 7 p.m. at Fleming Stadium.
