TRACK & FIELD: Warriors fare well in meet

NEW BERN -- Eastern Wayne took first-place honors in 11 different events -- men's and women's combined -- during an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet ran at New Bern.
On the boys' side, William Smith picked up two wins -- the triple jump (41-31⁄2 inches) and long jump (18-6 1/2). Jaylan Graham bested the field in the 110-meter hurdles (16.3 seconds), while regional qualifer Yeonte Royal claimed the high jump (5-8).
The Warriors' 4x1 relay of Marcus Rouse, Mathew Askew-Betts, Junious Tyson and Marlon Lewis crossed the line first in 44.8 seconds.
On the girls' side, Eastern Wayne logged first-place finishes in three relays -- the 4x4, 4x1 and 4x2. The 4x4 group of Samiyah Sasser, Daysia Dukes, Sharadiant Hamilton and Kianna Haywood turned in a time of 4:39.2. Haywood, Taniyah Oates, Tiayana Barnes and Treycie Ford broke the tape in 51.4 seconds in the 4x1. The 4x2 quartet of Rayven Smith, Samiya Blount, Lucretia Boykin and Barnes completed their race in 1:34.5.
Ford won the triple jump (32-10). Hamilton continued her season-long success in the 100 hurdles with a meet-winning time of 18.3 seconds.
Amari Brigman, one of the area's top field performers, won the shot put with a throw of 36-4.
Boykin captured the 100 dash in 12.8 seconds.
