Southern Wayne 11,
Goldsboro 6
Southern Wayne broke open a tense affair with six runs in its half of the final frame on Monday to post an 11-6 triumph over county foe Goldsboro.
Anatashia McNair's pinch-hit walk sparked the rally, which also included a nifty RBI single from Caroline Summerlin.
All other matters, however, belonged to Mackenzie Bryan.
The sophomore was dazzling inside the circle, striking out eight and walking just one en route to the complete-game victory.
She also performed ably at the plate, going 4-5 with a single, two doubles, a triple and 4 RBI.
Joining her in the bonanza were Rebecca Coor (2-3, RBI) and Dawn Anderson, who finished 3-4 with a single, two doubles and three RBI.
Southern Wayne is now 2-5 overall this season.
Hobbton 5,
Rosewood 2
NEWTON GROVE -- Keelin Hunter and Toree Marak had two hits apiece, but it wasn't enought to conquer host Hobbton on Monday.
The game was originally scheduled to be played last week, but was canceled due to inclement weather in Wayne County.
"Offensively, we hit the ball," coach Shay Campbell said of Rosewood's effort, "but we have to learn to hit hard ground balls and line-drives rather than fly balls -- we had 10 fly balls for outs."
The setback moved the Lady Eagles to 4-3 overall, and 1-1 in Carolina 1-A matters. They play host to North Duplin today at 6:30 p.m.
JV Baseball
Rosewood 10,
C.B. Aycock 0
Rosewood staged an offensive clinic Monday, scoring 10 runs on 7 hits to blank Charles B. Aycock.
Tanner McKeel led the Eagle onslaught with a 2-3, two RBI effort in the box.
Wyatt Searles, Connor Wise, Logan Price and Patrick Jones and all contributed RBI for the Eagles. Tanner Capps also chipped in, going 2-4 on the afternoon.
Rosewood now stands 6-0-1 on the season, and next faces Southern Wayne at home on March 30.
