COLLEGE TRACK & FIELD: Five UMO athletes break school records

MOUNT OLIVE -- Five University of Mount Olive athletes broke school records during its first-ever home meet in school history at the Ray McDonald Sr. Track & Field/Lacrosse Complex.

Danielle Hill (pole vault), Meredith Lorient (10,000-meter run), Malak Kafi (100 hurdles) and Shania Riffle (high jump) each established new records in their respective events. Lorient filed a time of 37 minutes. 48.54 seconds in the 10,000.

Kamber Skeen (pole vault), freshman Leah Hanle (10,000) and Hannah Glover (javelin) all moved into second place in the UMO record book.

On the men's side, Guillermo Rendon-Alcala emerged as the 100-meter dash winner with an NCAA provisional qualifying standard time of 10.58 seconds. He broke the school record.

Jonathan Dahlke overtook UMO alum Austin Steagall on the final lap of the 1,500-meter run, and turned in a provisional QT of 3:49.51. Steagall competed as a professional since he joined the GTC-Elite organization.

Princeton High graduate Martin Bayles took second overall in the men's pole vault with a height of 3.90 meters.

Hobbton alum Sam Bradsher, a two-time N.C. High School Athletic Association state 1-A champion, ended up third overall in the discus with a throw of 41.72 meters.

UMO placed first in the men's team portion of the day-long event with a 230-217 victory over Slippery Rock. UNC Pembroke took third, followed by Augusta, Barton and Coker.

The Trojan women amassed 205.33 points -- good enough for second place behind meet winner Slippery Rock, which compiled 241 points. Pembroke, Augusta, Clarion, Barton, Meredith Coker rounded out the eight-team field.
