Softball

Wayne Christian 14,

Bethel Christian 9

* Abbe Harris smacked an inside-the-park home run during Wayne Christian's 14-9, non-conference conquest of Bethel Christian on Friday evening.

Lindsay Stallard batted 3-for-4 as the Eagles evened their worksheet at 1-1 this season. Bri Verme tripled and earned the save in relief of starting pitcher Grace Bailey, who cranked out a double.

Bailey allowed seven runs on four hits and three walks, and retired five Bethel batters on stirkeouts. Verme tossed three innings of no-hit, five-strikeout relief.

Wayne Christian faces Northwood Temple on Tuesday.

Goldsboro 18,

Kinston 3 (5 inn.)

* Goldsboro plated 16 runs during a two-inning stretch and launched its 2017 Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference campaign with an 18-3, five-inning throttling of Kinston on Friday afternoon.

The Cougars collected nine extra-base hits and stole 10 bases.

Matti Rose Lyon (team-high four RBI) and Grace Tart pounded out three hits apiece. Addie Shirley (two RBI) and Abby Allen (RBI) each provided two hits.

GHS got one hit each from Riley Howell (RBI), Amber Pfenning (two RBI), Marcy Taylor (three RBI), Scarlett Casey and Taylor Lane (RBI).

Taylor earned the mound win -- an eight-hit, five-strikeout effort. All three Kinston runs were earned.

Boys' tennis

Wayne Country Day 7,

Christ Covenant 2

* Wayne Country Day sealed the outcome with five singles points and cruised past Christ Covenant, 7-2, in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference match Friday afternoon.

The Chargers received individual wins from Alec Fritzinger, Charlie Dees, Gray Langston, Peter Ye and Michael Geer. Dees did not lose a game at No. 3 singles.

Geer rallied for a 6-7, 7-5, 1-0 (9) win at No. 6 singles.

Fritzinger-Gray and Dees-Will Rose prevailed at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, respectively.

WCDS entertains Grace Christian-Sanford next Tuesday.

Rosewood 9, Spring Creek 0

* Rosewood swept the doubles and singles courts during a 9-0 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek.

Chase Bartlett, Collin Pendergraph, Marc Lewis, Jacob Smith, Cole Matthews and Kyle Matthews each prevailed in straight-set fashion for the Eagles. Lewis, Smith and Cole Matthews dropped one game apiece.

Bartlett-Pendergraph, Lewis-Smith and C. Matthews-K. Matthews capped the shutout in doubles.

Rosewood (5-3 overall) entertains county rival Goldsboro on Monday.

Girls' track

Faulker takes first

* WINTERVILLE -- C.B. Aycock junior Arlanda Faulkner emerged victorious in the triple jump and placed second in the long jump during an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet.

Faulker registered a mark of 31 feet, 6 inches in the triple jump. Her runner-up leap in the long jump was 15-4.

Karah Long ended up fourth in the 400 run.

The 4x8 relay of Hannah Carter, Victoria Patnaude, Dymond Floyd and Sarah Gregory placed third. Patnaude, Long, Floyd and Carter also claimed third in the 4x4 relay.

Girls' soccer

Goldsboro 6, Southern Wayne 0

* Shakia Doctor and Juanita Corres-Torres knocked in two goals apiece during Goldsboro's 6-0, non-conference triumph over Southern Wayne on the Cougar Stadium pitch Friday evening.

Taironnicia Davis and Angelina Nacca each contributed one goal. Courtney Sutton collected an assist.

The Cougars (6-0-1 overall) are the guests of Eastern Wayne on Monday.

C.B. Aycock 3,

Southern Nash 0

* BAILEY -- Hannah Spier tallied two goals during Charles B. Aycock's 3-0, non-conference conquest of Southern Nash on Friday.

Michelle Zamora collected one goal. Lauren Smith dished out three assists.

Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Smith logged 13 saves.

Spier recorded a "double hat trick" (six goals) as the Golden Falcons throttled county and Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference foe Southern Wayne, 8-0, on Thursday.

Smith added two goals and two assists for CBA, which snapped a season-opening two-game skid. Schyler Lewis, Zamora, Savannah Strickland and Anna Seguin provided one assist apiece.

Goalkeeper Mckenzie Norris filed the shutout between the pipes.

Aycock (2-2-0 overall, 1-0-0 ECC) entertains South Johnston on Monday.

Hobbton 2, Spring Creek

* NEWTON GROVE -- Hobbton dealt two-time defending Carolina 1-A Conference champion Spring Creek a 2-1 loss on Friday evening.

Additional details were not available.

Spring Creek received a hat trick from Jordan Lane during a 5-0 triumph over Neuse Charter on Thursday.

Lane also dished out an assist. Madison Sullivan contributed two goals and three assists. Ivet Carreno supplied one assist.

Goalie Fernanda Martinez stopped seven NC shots.

The Gators (3-4-0 overall, 2-1-0 CC) visit Princeton on Tuesday.

Baseball

Princeton 8, Neuse Charter 1

* PRINCETON -- Ryan Woodard delivered a three-hit, two-RBI performance during Princeton's 8-1 victory over Neuse Charter on the Carolina 1-A Conference scene Friday evening.

Tanner Flowers doubled and drove in two runs.

Colby Sullivan worked four innings on the cliff and held the Cougars scoreless on five hits and six strikeouts. Will Gurganious hurled three innings of five-hit, two strikeout relief.

Parrott Academy 9,

Wayne Country Day 5

* KINSTON -- Wayne Country Day stranded seven runs on base during the first three innings, and eventually suffered a 9-5 non-conference loss to 2-A Parrott Academy on Friday evening.

"We need to do a better job scoring runs with runners in scoring position," said Chargers head coach Michael Taylor.

Amane Godo (RBI) and Avery Browning cranked out two hits apiece for the Chargers. Case Kermode (RBI), John Strickland (RBI) and Zach Barfield each provided one hit.

WCDS used three pitchers -- Strickland, Godo and Ryan Smith. Strickland yielded five runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks. Godo took the loss after giving up four runs (two earned) on three hits in just one-third of an inning.

Ryan Smith tossed a two-hitter in 12/3 innings of action.

The Chargers (3-2 overall) entertain John Paul II on Tuesday.

Eastern Christian 7,

Faith Christian 4

* Starting pitcher Cal Reese and Cooper Voeller banged out two hits apiece during Faith Christian's 7-4, non-conference loss to Eastern Christian of Chocowinity on Friday.

Reese tripled and drove in a run. On the mound, Reese yielded three earned runs and retired six Eastern batters on strikeouts. Dylan Downey tossed 21/3 innings of two-strikeout relief.

Jordan Hill doubled and plated two runs. Alex Watson reached on an error and scored for the Conquerors, who are 1-2 overall this season.

Faith opened the season with a loss to Raleigh Christian and followed that up with a 31-0 drubbing of Liberty Christian (Durham). Logan Pittman cranked out two doubles. Voeller emerged as the winning pitcher.

The Conquerors visit N.C. Christian Schools Association 2-A District 4 foe Greenville on Thursday.

North Duplin 3,

James Kenan 1

* CALYPSO -- Dylan Jones tossed a two-hitter during North Duplin's 3-1 conquest of county and Carolina 1-A Conference rival James Kenan.

Jones surrendered an unearned run and posted four strikeouts.

Tanner Gehron, Copeland Brickhouse (RBI), Colby Bass, Gage Smith, Ricky Cameron and David Price (two RBI) rapped out one hit apiece for the Rebels.

Smith and Cameron combined to score three runs.

North Duplin (2-2 overall, 1-1 CC) is the guest of Rosewod on Tuesday.

JV

* C.B. Aycock 4, Southern Wayne 3 -- The visiting Golden Falcons built a four-run advantage after three innings and held on for the road win Friday afternoon. Guy Crane paced the CBA offense with two hits. Davis Carroll (RBI) and Jakob Prebe (three RBI) each supplied a hit. Tyrie Artis added a stolen base. Trey Smith allowed five hits, three runs (two earned) and retired three SW batters on strikeouts. Kalob Moore claimed the save with 12/3 innings of no-hit, one-strikeout relief. The Golden Falcons improved to 3-3 overall this season.

Middle schools

* Girls' soccer: Dillard 1, Greenwood 0 -- Dyamond George punched in the Tigers' lone goal. Goalkeeper Victoria Royal earned the shutout between the pipes. Dillard (4-0-1 overall) visits Eastern Wayne on March 23.
