Jack Talton hurled a complete-game four-hitter and Wayne Country Day dispatched Community Christian 8-2 in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference opener for both teams.
Talton did not yield a walk and coaxed the Cyclones into 11 ground-ball outs during his 86-pitch inning.
"Our defense played well behind him today," Chargers head coach Michael Taylor said.
Mitch Turnage returned to the lineup and connected on a fifth-inning RBI hit. Case Kermode, Amane Godo, Jon Bryan (RBI), Ryan Hopes (RBI), Zach Barfield, Avery Browning and Cole Brewer supplied one hit apiece.
John Strickland drove in a run.
"I thought we hit the ball well at times," said Taylor, whose team stranded 10 runners on base. "We have to do a better job getting those runners in."
Wayne Country Day (3-1 overall, 1-0 CPIC) is the guest of Parrott Academy today.
