Coastal Christian benefited extra scoring opportunities and handed Wayne Country Day a 14-5, non-conference loss Saturday afternoon.
"Pitching was the key today," Chargers head coach Michael Taylor said. "(We) gave up 10 walks and seven of them went on to score a run. Our pitchers have to do a better job of throwing strikes."
John Strickland started and took the mound loss for WCDS, which suffered its first defeat in three outings. He allowed seven runs (six earned) on three hits and four walks.
Amane Godo hurled two innings. Ryan Smith, Case Kermode and Jack Talton combined for 32/3 innings of relief on the bump. The quintet yielded 13 hits.
Kermode paced the Chargers' offense with two hits and an RBI. Avery Browning, John Strickland and Ryan Hopes each had one hit.
"On the offense side of things, we have to have better plate approaches," Taylor said. "Today is over and we are going to get back to work next week."
WCDS returns to the diamond next Thursday against Coastal Plains Indpendent 1-A Conference foe Community Christian.
