PREPS DIGEST: JV, middle schools

JV

* Baseball: Rosewood 17, Hobbton 1 (2 inn.) -- A. Harper batted 2-for-3 with three RBI during the Eagles' mercy-rule win in Carolina 1-A Conference play. Carson Hatem (RBI), Will Albert (two RBI), Tanner Capps (RBI), Connor Wise (RBI), Tanner McKeel (RBI) and Patrick Jones (RBI) each had one hit. DeVante Phillips and Jonah Clark each drove in a run. Phillips limited the Wildcats to an unearned run on one hit, one walk and three strikeouts. Rosewood improved to 4-0-1 overall this season.

Middle schools

* Softball: Wayne Christian 12-13, Lee Christian 5-4 -- Hayli Verme threw a complete game in the circle during the opener. She struck out seven and gave up four hits. Abbe Harris belted a home run and finished with three hits. Lindsay Stafford, Lilly Britt and Emma Bauer each provided an extra-base hit. In game two, Harris emerged as the winning pitcher. Verme and Stafford each swatted an inside-the-park home run. Wayne Christian (3-0 overall) travels to Freedom Christian next Tuesday.

* Softball: Grantham 11, Spring Creek 8 -- Shaye Heathcock slapped a home run and claimed the pitching win for the Bulldogs. Skylar Craig paced the offense with three hits, including two doubles. Layla Rackley and Riley Hatch each contributed two hits. Allie Lane and Abbey Parker posted one hit apiece. Alissa Price doubled twice and tripled for the Gators. It was Grantham's season-opening game.

* Girls' soccer: Norwayne 6, Mount Olive 2 -- Kaitlyn Smith punched in two goals for the Cobras. Haley Martin, Kayla Spier and Brianna Casey tallied one goal apiece. Spier and Casey each dished out an assist. Norwayne drew an "own" goal, also. The Cobras (2-0-0 overall) are the guests of Rosewood on Monday.
