Case Kermode mashed a home run and collected two RBI as Wayne Country Day launched its 2017 campaign with a season-opening, 17-7 mercy-rule conquest of Grace Christian-Sanford on Tuesday afternoon.
Avery Browning and Mitch Turnage (three RBI) each recorded a three-hit performance. John Strickland (RBI), Ryan Smith (RBI), Ryan Hopes and Amane Godo each had one hit.
Strickland gave up three runs on four hits and retired four GCS batters on strikeouts in two innings. Godo worked three innings of two-hit, four-strikeout relief and earned the mound win.
The Chargers (1-0 overall) play host to Ridgecroft on Friday.
