SWIMMING: Chargers' Pittman reaches medal podium

GREENSBORO -- Zander Pittman reached the medal podium during the boys' 100-yard breaststroke in the second-ending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Classes 1-A/2-A state championship meet.
Pittman, a junior at Wayne Country Day, touched the wall third in 1 minute, 2.03 seconds. He posted a fourth-place time of 1:59.59 in the 200 individual medley (IM).
Charlie Dees ended up 41st in the 50 free (26.43) and 52nd in the 100 free (1:00.74). Teammate Raleigh Benson placed 32nd in the 100 free (58.06), while Daniel Covert took 72nd overall in 1:02.99.
The Chargers' foursome of Benson, Dees, Covert and Pittman wound up 13th in the 400 free relay (4:01.23) and 14th in the 200 free relay (1:47.64).
Wayne Christian's Stephen Whitfield secured 72nd place in the 50 free with a mark of 28.46 seconds.
On the girls' side, Wayne Christian's Anna Rendall was 15th in the 500 free (6:36.3) and 21st overall in the 100 free (1:04.39).
WCDS standout Grace O'Daniel turned in a 30th-place time of 28.71 in the 50 free and swam a time of 1:04.01 in the 100 free -- good enough for 19th place.
Teammate Laurel Hinson was 64th in the 100 free (1:12.64).
