PREPS DIGEST: JV, middle schools

JV

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Christian 61, Greenville Christian 59 -- Jayden Young dropped in a team-high 26 points the Eagles' non-conference victory Thursday evening. Jeremy Bently added 11 points and Will White (six rebounds, four assists) chipped in 11 points apiece. Jaylon Wallace contributed nine points. Dean Thornton pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 65, Cape Fear Christian 52 -- Jaden Cooper supplied a game-high 19 points for the Chargers. Noah Atwood, Case Kermode and Andrew Gattis each put 12 points beside their respective name in the scorebook.

Middle schools

* Girls' basketball: Norwayne 48, Brogden 26 -- Abbey Thomas paced the Cobras with 19 points. Katie Parrish and Kaitlyn Smith each provided eight points. Alisha Moye knocked down 16 points for Brogden. Norwayne (6-1 overall, 2-0 WCMSAC Division I) visits Dillard next Wednesday.

* Girls' basketball: Faith Christian-Rocky Mount 22, Wayne Christian 14 -- Hayli Verme emerged as Wayne Christian's top scorer with seven points. Bri Verme registered six points, while Sydnei Rosso added one point. The Eagles shot 6 of 17 from the free throw line.

* Boys' basketball: Norwayne 52, Brogden 14 -- Trever Reid paced the Cobras' offense with 11 points. Omarreyon Johnson posted seven points and 10 rebounds. Styles Kendall logged five points and nine rebounds. Ashton Perozini delivered five points, six rebounds and four steals. Colby Thompson contributed four points and three rebounds. Norwayne improved to 6-1 overall this season.

* Boys' basketball: Grantham 45, Wayne School of Engineering 39 (OT) -- Terquavis Butler led three Grantham players in double figures with 14 points. Mark Graham and Tayvon Callahan had 12 and 10 points, respectively. Terdarius Butler scored five points. Grantham improved to 4-4 overall and is 2-1 in Wayne County Middle Schools Athletic Conference Division II play.

* Girls' basketball: Grantham 39, Wayne School of Engineering 15 -- Alissa James led the Bulldogs with 16 points, while Morgan Kennedy chipped in 11 points. Abbey Parker, D'mia Wright and Alaysia Broadie each turned in a four-point effort. Mary Archibald paced WSE with 12 points. Grantham (7-1 overall, 3-0 WCMSAC Division II) plays host to Greenwood next Thursday.
