Stop Bianca Lockamy.

Control the defensive end of the court.

Wayne Country Day head varsity girls' basketball coach David Flowers couldn't have scripted the gameplan any better.

One of the state's top scorers, Lockamy fouled out and watched the final 10-plus minutes from the Oakwood bench. Five of her teammates eventually suffered the same fate and sat in stunned silence as Wayne Country Day handed the No. 5-ranked Eagles a resounding 66-26 loss Friday evening.

Oakwood entered the game 7-0.

The after glow on Flowers' face said it all.

"I was so happy with those girls," Flowers said. "That's unbelievable. We turned the ball over, but we made up for it on the defensive end, which is what we wanted to do. We knew Bianca gets a lot of offensive rebounds and that's how she scores."

WCDS committed 32 turnovers, but filled the statsheet with 63 rebounds -- including 17 by Lexi Jeffreys. Langley Barnes, TT Ramsey and Janae Jones switched defensive assignments in Lockamy in a box-and-one scheme.

Barnes even drew a charge against Lockamy, who scored 15 points on the night.

"We spent 15 minutes on rebounding and 15 minutes on drawing a charge," Flowers said of the previous day's practice. "I even made a deal that if they took a charge, they'd great a free meal out of it, so I guess I owe Langley a free meal. You don't see girls taking charges."

The Chargers (7-4 overall) led 10-6 after one period and flirted with a double-digit advantage. Lockamy's assist to Jenny Payter tied the game at 20-20 late in the second quarter.

WCDS answered with a 6-0 run.

Physical play led to constant stoppages as the second half slowed to a snail's pace. Scorekeepers kept busy marking fouls in the book, which eventually led to Oakwood with just four players on the floor in the final two minutes of regulation.

The Chargers benefited from 31 whistles that translated into 36 trips to the free throw line. They made 17.

"It was good to see the girls not buckle," said Flowers, whose team extended its win streak to five. "They kept playing hard...didn't stop. I was pleased to see that."

Jala Holloman drained the nets for a game-high 22 points, while Jeffreys dropped in 10 points. Lillian Freeman contributed nine points and six rebounds.

Ramsey scored seven points.
