The seeds are slowly starting to bloom.
Jamal King posted a double-double -- 16 points, 10 rebounds -- as Wayne Country Day dismantled Oakwood, 76-34, in non-conference action Friday evening.
Cole Atwood pumped in 11 of his game-high 18 points in the second half for the Chargers, who extended their win streak to four. Jimmie Sanders collected 10 points and Andrew Gattis buried a trio of triples (nine points) in a reserve role.
In all, 10 WCDS players scratched in the scorebook.
"I gave the guys a saying that I heard from a coach, I might have read it on Facebook somewhere, I don't know, before we played Parrott," Chargers head coach David Flowers said. "They thought they buried us, but they didn't know we were seeds. We've went through a gauntlet of teams already.
"They knocked us down and buried us, but here we are."
Oakwood wouldn't disagree.
The Eagles closed the gap to 12-9 on their third 3-pointer of the opening quarter before the Chargers (7-5 overall) began to stretch their legs in transition. King and Marcus Metcalf directed the floor traffic, which allowed PJ Hill and Sanders to capitalize on the offensive end.
A one-possession lead soon morphed into a 30-13 advantage just three minutes into the second quarter. WCDS led 44-19 at the half and 67-27 after three periods.
"We're playing really good basketball right now...starting to play like we're capable of playing," Flowers said. "Everybody is doing their part. We're getting up and down the floor, pressuring the ball.
"It's really fun to see it now and I hope it continues."
