* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 66, Neuse Christian 51 -- Jaden Cooper led four Chargers in double figures with 18 points. Andrew Gattis contributed 17 points. Cooper Edmondson and Case Kermode pumped in 12 points apiece. WCDS is 1-0 overall.
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Christian 50, Goldsboro Heat 32 -- Jaydon Young and Blake Tinker emerged as the Eagles' top scorers with 14 points apiece. Tinker snared eight rebounds. Addison Johnson collected nine points, six steals and three assists.
Middle schools
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Christian d. Wilson Christian 34-9 -- The Eagles improved to 2-0 overall after a season-opening, 28-23 victory over the Goldsboro Heat on Monday.* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 15, Wilson Christian 12 -- Brianna Verme tallied eight of her team-high 13 points in the third quarter as the Eagles rallied past the Chargers on Tuesday evening. Kaylee Martin added two points for WCS, which travels to Greenville Christian next Monday.
