DEEP RUN -- Goldsboro's 2016 football campaign came to a close with a season-ending, 20-7 loss to Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference foe South Lenoir.
Zxavior Bowden tallied the Cougars' lone touchdown -- a 1-yard dive in the opening quarter. He finished with 39 yards rushing on 10 carries and caught two passes totalling two yards.
Dayquell Dawson completed eight passes for 80 total yards to five different receivers -- Ronnie Tookes (2 catches, 33 yards), Jacob Owens (2-15), KJ Alston (1-22), Andrew McNeil (1-8) and Bowden.
Linebacker RJ Dodson emerged as the defensive leader with 14 tackles. Emmanuel Persky logged 13 tackles, while Jameel Larkins contributed 10 stops, including three behind the line of scrimmage.
The Cougars had 69 tackles as a team.
Goldsboro ended the year 1-10 overall after receiving a forfeit from county rival Charles B. Aycock, which used an ineligible player during their game in September.
