Perennial powerhouse J.H. Rose handed Eastern Wayne a 25-14, 25-19, 25-15 decision on an emotional night in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play.
The Warriors recognized two mothers who are getting deployed from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Latanya Brigman, the mother of senior Amari Brigman, is headed to Afghanistan on the team's senior night next Thursday. Briana Autman's mom, Trakeila Holt, is headed to a base near Dubai.
"Emotions were tugging at everyone's heartstrings," EW head coach Anna Hajjar said. "Our scores and stats do not accurately portray how well we played. Rose has a very good offense and is blessed with height.
"It proved to be a challenge."
Emily Newsome recorded a team-high four kills for the Warriors. Kailey Peedin-Rouse added three. Alyssa Jackson and Autman each had two.
Libero Jennifer Sparks served three aces and collected five digs.
Peedin-Rouse logged two aces.
