• Volleyball: New Bern d. Eastern Wayne 25-11, 25-27, 25-6 -- Brittany Atkinson and Demya Yelverton recorded four and three kills, respectively, for EW. Yelverton served four aces, Bethany Williams collected 17 digs and Ziomara Williams dished out a team-leading five assists.
• Volleyball: Spring Creek d. North Duplin 25-22, 25-17 -- Mikayla Price collected seven aces and four digs in the Gators' straight-set win. Emily Dupuy provided two aces, two digs and six kills. Shae Odom doled out five assists and served an ace. The Rebels slipped to 5-8 overall and 4-6 in Carolina 1-A Conference play this season.
Middle schools
• Football: Grantham 22, Dillard 6 -- Deyzar Howell rambled for touchdown runs of 20 and 8 yards during the Bulldogs' victory on Wednesday afternoon. Trae Roa threw a TD strike and two-point conversion pass to Tayvon Callahan. Mark Graham added a two-point conversion and led the defense with eight tackles. Roa, Callahan, Kadarius Hall and Tanner Brock each recorded a quarterback sack. Grantham (3-0 overall) entertains Rosewood on Monday.
• Football: Mount Olive 16, Greenwood 12 -- Jerome Moore broke loose for a 75-yard touchdown run and Ryan Norton also scored a TD for the victorious Chargers on Wednesday afternoon. Paulensky Francis and Na'Daviyon Pemberton each posted a two-point conversion for MO. Defensive leaders were Francis (fumble recovery), Norton, Moore, Knowledge Broadie and Austin Espinosa. Mount Olive (3-1 overall) is the guest of Eastern Wayne next Wednesday.
• Football: Eastern Wayne 34, Spring Creek 0 -- Danny Stewart, JJ Murray, Hakeem Coley, Zavion Hardy and Malik Jones tallied one touchdown apiece for the Warriors.
