UMO student-athletes recognized by ADAAA

MOUNT OLIVE -- A total of 63 student-athletes from the University of Mount Olive earned recognition as Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award winners for the 2015-16 calendar year.

Student-athletes must maintain a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended at least two years of a four-year member school and been an active member of an intercollegiate team during their academic year.

The Association acknowledged more than 8,000 student-athletes from 156 Division II insitutions.

UMO ranked fourth among Conference Carolinas schools in award recipients.

The winners, by sport, were:

* Baseball: Jack Sherrill, Alvin Swoop, Kodi Whitley.

* Women's basketball: Rachel Fehl, Julia Gonzalez-Rodriguez.

* Men's golf: Harry Bayley, Markus Proesch.

* Women's golf: Julie Loennechen.

* Men's lacrosse: Rocky Bowman, Luke Morris, Ryan Morris.

* Women's lacrosse: Emerald Barron, Kali Cook-Grisewood, Candace Corkin, Gina Fader, Addison Foudray, Alyssa Fox, Nicholle Galletti, Kayla Mergi, Caitlin Sabadish.

* Men's soccer: Bright Eto, Edrisa Chune, Louis Gorman.

* Women's soccer: Lauren Cowley, Hannah Kirk, Stephanie McCoy, Nichole Poppe, Kristin Power, Mackenzie Reid, Niza Vera, Alex Wetherholt, Jocelyn Yurchak.

* Softball: Kelsey Akers, Savannah Becker, Erin Brogan, Anna Ingram, Kylie Ward, JenniBeth Burge, Kristin Power.

* Men's tennis: Akramov Sherzod, Yannic Stark.

* Women's tennis: Stella Di Michele, Mariana Gambo-Hernandez, Alejandra Hernandez Medel.

* Men's track and field: Joaquim Catano, Davide Cuccurillo, Nick Greyno.

* Men's cross country/track and field: Adam Craig, Jonathan Dahlke, Pol Domenech Ferrer, Eugeni Gil, Aki Kitigawa, Michael Munoz, Jacob Urys.

* Women's cross country/track and field: Nichole Poppe, Emily Shaw, Chelsea Van Dijk.
