SEVEN SPRINGS -- Landon Smothers tossed a pair of first-half touchdown passes as Spring Creek dropped a weather-shortened, 35-14 non-conference decision to East Carteret in "The Swamp."
Officials halted the contest with nine minutes left in regulation.
Smothers completed a first-quarter TD pass to Jamerion Dawson. His second scoring pass fell into the soft hands of speedy receiver Najee Young.
The Mariners (2-1 overall) led 21-14 at halftime and scored two second-half touchdowns. It was East Carteret's eighth victory over SC in eight meetings.
"I was really proud of my guys,"SChead coach Aaron Sanders said. "They came out and stepped up to the challenge. East Carteret has got a good football team. They were physical at the point of attack."
The Gators (1-2) entertain Wake Christian on Friday.
