DEEP RUN -- Austin Rouse recovered a North Duplin fumble on the first play from scrimmage in the second overtime and South Lenoir claimed a 44-36, non-conference victory.

The visiting Rebels seized a 30-24 lead with 7:31 left in regulation on Colby Bass's 16-yard run and subsequent two-point conversion run. Bass ended the night with 66 yards on nine totes.

South Lenoir (2-1 overall) answered with Jordan Kennedy's 80-yard touchdown bomb to Adonte Ward with 14 seconds remaining in the game. The Blue Devils missed the conversion to set up the extra OT sessions.

North Duplin quarterback Will Archer broke loose for a 10-yard run in the first overtime. SL tied the game at 36-36 and moved ahead 44-36 in the second OT on Ward's short run and Kennedy's two-point conversion.

Rouse's fumble recovery sealed the outcome on the next play.

Kennedy Sheppard paced the Rebels' offense with 116 yards on 22 carries, including a second-quarter touchdown run.

Archer provided two rushing touchdowns and accounted for 134 yards of total offense. He completed a 79-yard TD pass to Luke Britt in the third quarter.

The Rebels (0-3 overall) return home Friday to host Pender. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at H.E. Grubbs Field in Calypso.
