Volleyball

Wayne Christian 3,

Bethel Christian 0

* Kasey Norris dished out 28 assists during Wayne Christian's 25-16, 25-22, 25-15, non-conference triumph over N.C. Christian Schools Association 2-A member Bethel Christian on Friday evening.

Hannah Sladick recorded 13 kills and three blocks. Hope Shook contributed six kills and five aces. Ashlee Harrison supplied three kills and three aces, while Sarah Sawyer had two aces.

Holly Gurley registered a 100-percent service rate with three aces.

The Eagles (6-1 overall) open their Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference season Monday against Christ Covenant.

Golf

Two rare feats

* Thursday turned into an unusual afternoon for a pair of Goldsboro golfers while they tangled with the Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.

Wells Warner scored a double-eagle 2 on the par-5 first hole. Witnesses included Joe Pritchard, Chip Thompson and Matt VanDam.

Jamie Morgan carded a hole-in-one on the par-4 third hole that measures 287 yards. His playing partners -- Jeremy Sasser, Robert Clayton and Gloria McCullen -- witnessed the feat.

Eagles compete

* KENLY -- Wayne Christian carded a team score of 174 during a multi-team match at Cardinal Country Club.

Grace Buddin emerged as the Eagles' low scorer with 56. Teammates Laura Kim and Brianna Verme rounded out Wayne Christian's team score with identical nine-hole rounds of 59.

Annalise Fitzmorris, Caroline Jones and Christina Jimenez each shot a 63.

Girls' tennis

Spring Creek 7, Southern Wayne 1

* Spring Creek secured the overall outcome with five singles points and handed county rival Southern Wayne a 7-1, non-conference loss.

Ivey Rouse, Amanda Haggerty, Kristin Alphin, Chloe Davis and Vanessa Southerland each prevailed in straight-set fashion in singles. Haggerty and Davis each won 6-0, 6-0. Southerland lost just one game.

The Gators triumphed at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles.

The No. 3 doubles was not completed due to threatening weather in the area.
