They're back.
Area varsity football mini-camps continue their prep work this week, managing conditioning and basic installations ahead of opening day, scheduled for Monday, August 1.
North Duplin, Rosewood and Spring Creek will all hold sessions this evening.
The Rebels' dual workout will include time in the weight room, followed by a brief session on the practice field.
In Seven Springs, the Gators will hit the field at 5:30, and wrap the proceedings by 7:30 p.m.
Rosewood will manage its session this morning, beginning at 8:45 a.m. and extending to 11:15 a.m.
Goldsboro High will end its four-day session with a workout on Thursday. The Cougars will hit the field from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
All school administrators, coaches and training staff have been forced to remain acutely aware of sweltering conditions in the area, often working without pads and helmets, and stopping for hydration breaks every 15 minutes.
Also on tap for many players is a spot on their school's respective field maintenance unit, which includes basic clean-up and sight work at each school.
It's called a "facility day."
"Our kids take pride in what we want to do with our stadium," Aycock head coach Steve Brooks said, "and we want it looking nice when (teams) come in here."
"We'll have weedeaters and lawnmowers, all that stuff."
It's par for the course this time of year, as area programs spend what is left of their time fine-tuning every available option for their respective programs.
The Friday night lights will be burning soon.
