Dahlke, Steagall to compete in NCAAs

BRADENTON, Fla. -- Jonathan Dahlke and Austin Steagall will represent University of Mount Olive in the 2016 NCAA Division II men's outdoor track and field national championship meet at IMG Academy.

The meet begins Thursday.

Steagall posted provisional times in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9 minutes, 2.12 seconds) and 5,000-meter run (14:11.1). Dahlke logged a qualifying time of 8:58.44 in the steeplechase.

A total 754 competitors -- 377 men and 377 women -- will battle daily for national crowns in different events. The three-day championship meet will be streamed live on NCAA.com.

Wigler honored

MOUNT OLIVE -- University of Mount Olive's Claire Wigler has been chosen as a third-team member of the 2016 IWLCA All-American squad.

It is Wigler's third postseason honor.

The Syracuse native received second-team all-South Region accolades and was selected to play in the IWLCA North-South All-Star Game. She is the all-time assists leader at UMO with 67 -- a mark she achieved with a six-assist outing against Lees-McRae this season.

Wigler, who was named the Conference Carolinas Offensive Player-of-the-Year, ranked the among the top five in several league categories -- second in goals scored (55), fourth in assists (38), first in points (93) and fourth in shots (101).

Wigler and Hannah Knight will play in the All-Star Game at Cabrini (Pa.) College on June 4.
